Recall of several Leadcare II tests

Jul 20, 2021 | General, Medical Updates

We were recently informed that the FDA has announced a recall of several Leadcare II tests going back to last October. We use the Leadcare II test in our office to screen children for elevated lead levels at their 1 year and 2-year well-child exams.

The FDA is recalling these tests because there is a risk of providing falsely low results. Due to this recall the CDC recently issued a Health Advisory recommending that patients who were tested for lead using these tests between October 27, 2020 and July 6, 2021 be retested.

Currently, the CDC recommends patients be retested with a higher complexity test with a venous blood sample. Unfortunately, we are unable to do this type of testing in the office. If you would like to have your child retested, please call our office and we can order in this test for your child through Quest.

Check with your pediatrician to see if your child may be at higher risk for lead poisoning. For more information about lead screenings visit the link below.
